As Queensland opens for Queenslanders, with unlimited travel allowed statewide, you can start planning your first winter weekend getaway for 2020!
If you’re looking to escape this weekend and are craving fresh country air and Scenic Rim sunsets, we’ve got some tips for you (like a wine tasting at Sarabah Estate Vineyard, pictured above). As restrictions ease, there is no better time to explore our own backyard and support some small, local businesses.
Fancy a walk?
If you feel like heading into nature, the Scenic Rim has six National Parks full of tracks and trails leading you to lookouts, waterfalls and creeks.
If you love heights, the O’Reilly’s Tree Top Walk is for you. This walk takes you along nine suspension bridges, where you can experience walking (or tiptoeing) 15 metres above the forest floor. Another favourite is the walk around Moran’s Falls, with a lookout famous for its stunning view over the volcanic gorge and out to the Main Range. From half-day walks up Mt Edwards, treks to the peak of Mt Maroon, or the challenging Mt Barney climb for seasoned mountain climbers, there is something for every adventurer in the Scenic Rim.
Dine-in delights
Who knew we would miss sitting down for a drink or meal so much? The Bearded Dragon Hotel at Mount Tamborine are excited to be serving up their famed pub feeds to be enjoyed dine in or in their vast gardens. From pizzas, premium steaks and chicken parmies, but remember all COVID Safe Restrictions do apply, so bookings are essential to ensure staff and guests are meeting government regulations. Book now by calling 07 5543 6888 or clicking here .
One of the Scenic Rim’s most popular restaurants, Kooroomba Kitchen, has reopened its doors. From Friday to Sunday guests can enjoy lunch at one of three sitting times, from 11am, with a limit of ten guests. It’s the perfect chance to try their culinary delights, which are full of local produce. Again, in order to meet COVID-19 guidelines, bookings are essential. Contact them on 07 5463 0022 to book your table – reservations can only be made via this phone number.
Wine not?
Feeling like celebrating the ease of restrictions with a glass of wine? Sarabah Estate Vineyard has opened their cellar door and you can visit this weekend from 11am to 4pm (Fri, Sat & Sun). They invite you to visit their gorgeous winery, while tasting wines of all vintages and blends and enjoying their lunch menu. Did we mention they also have a range of farm animals including alpacas, a perfect way to entertain the kids. This winery, just outside of Canungra, is not to be missed! It’s also situated next door to Greenlee Farm & Cottages, if you do want to make a weekend of it!
