“ We love that people in the Scenic Rim are always friendly and that the landscape is so diverse with mountains, rainforests and waterways.”
Surrounded by wineries, national parks and a range of wildlife, Greenlee Farm & Cottages offers a true country escape.
In 1995, Paul and Robyn Lee decided a tree change was in order and bought a 76 acre block near Canungra, nestled alongside Lamington National Park. The couple built their own Queenslander home and planted a macadamia orchard bordering the Darlington Range and running along Canungra Creek.
“The land was originally used for grazing, meaning the land was completely bare when we began. It took us months of digging holes, installing irrigation and of course, planting and raising 500 macadamia trees. We also started keeping bees, as these were essential for the pollination process of our orchard. After seven years of waiting for our trees to grow and produce enough nuts, our macadamia farm was officially in business,” Robyn said.
From these beginnings 25-years-ago, the family-operated farm has now become a staple in the Scenic Rim offering boutique accommodation, farm tours and their locally produced macadamias and honey.
“The demand for our macadamias and honey has meant we’ve had our produce in top Brisbane restaurants, been featured in the Eat Local cookbook, we are Scenic Rim accredited ‘Locavores’ and we also supply numerous businesses around the Scenic Rim with our produce.”
Paul and Robyn have made their home in the Scenic Rim and have raised their twin daughters, Morgan and Victoria (now 19-years-old), on the farm.
In April 2016 Paul and Robyn decided to diversify their business and opened four boutique cottages, allowing visitors to not only experience their macadamia orchard but also experience what the whole region has to offer.
“Our four Greenlee Cottages are contemporary with rustic charm and offer the perfect base to explore the area or to relax in and properly unwind,” Robyn said.
“We have a mix of visitors from those who are coming to enjoy the nearby wineries or attend a wedding, and often we’ll host the bridal parties in our boutique accommodation. Nature lovers enjoy the accessibility to both Lamington National Park and Tamborine Mountain to embark on bushwalking trails. Our guests even get to spot wallabies, bandicoots and native birdlife from their cottage doorstep.”
And Paul and Robyn’s favourite place in the Scenic Rim?
“The Canungra Valley – it has everything from wineries to rainforest.”
