“It’s such a diverse region that offers so much to do and see as well as a truly magical place to live and work.” – Kay Tommerup
Tommerup’s Dairy Farm gives everyone who visits a ‘taste of life on the farm’. Run by Dave and Kay Tommerup, this charming working farm also offers visitors an authentic farm stay experience and access to their farm larder.
Within 75 minutes from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Tommerup Dairy Farm is located just past Beaudesert in the picturesque Kerry Valley.
Dave is a fifth generation dairy farmer, whose family has been running the property since 1874 and Kay has been on the property with Dave for 24 years. It’s safe to say they, along with their two children, dairy cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and chooks are well and truly part of the Scenic Rim fabric.
Dave and Kay are passionate about the area and their slice of heaven in the foothills of Kerry. They want to ensure that they are staying true to their agricultural heritage, while showcasing their region and produce to visitors.
“We’re both very passionate about keeping the farm going for future generations and we want to respect and honour the previous generations who have farmed here by improving and preserving the family property. We love sharing our farm with visitors and helping to connect consumers with where their food comes from,” Kay says.
The Tommerups always march to the beat of their own drum and have successfully diversified their dairy farm. Not only do they offer a genuine farm experience and accomodation in their lovingly restored cottages, they sell a selection of produce through their farm larder. From ethically raised pork and veal, to free range eggs and their most recent project is The Creamery featuring their new Jersey Girl artisan dairy products.
“We want to work on achieving the most amazing, unique and most importantly to us, authentic, paddock to plate experience.”
And what do they love most about the Scenic Rim?
“We love that the Scenic Rim is so close to Brisbane and the Gold Coast, yet feels like a million miles away when you’re here. It’s such a diverse region that offers so much to do and see as well as a truly magical place to live and work. Our local community is fantastic and we also love the comradery that has developed with other producers through the Eat Local Week movement.”
Kay says a Scenic Rim must visit is…
“I’m biased. Our farm and our valley is my favourite place but we love to visit Boonah. It has such a friendly, country atmosphere.
