“Being able to share our farm with like-minded folk, city or country, is our absolute pleasure.” – Debbie Richardson
Just 90 minutes from Brisbane and the Gold Coast is where you’ll find Rod and Debbie Richardson living on their 670-acre Sahiwal cattle farm at Running Creek, in the Scenic Rim.
With a connection to the area that dates back to the 80s when Rod’s father ‘Ernie’ owned a Sahiwal Stud Bull Centre in nearby Kerry Valley, Rod and Debbie have been cattle farming at Running Creek for a little over 12 years.
“Rod searched many locations and farms, however when walking and driving around what would become his farm, seeing the clean flowing water and rich lush mountain pastures, he knew that this was the farm for him,” said Debbie.
“We are privileged to wake up every day to the stunning beauty of the McPherson Ranges and the peaceful sounds of Running Creek. We work on our farm to the sights and sounds of a plethora of bird life, focused on caring for our number one resource (the earth) knowing, that as we do this our cattle and our farm receive the benefits which then flows into the people and families who choose to purchase our grass-fed beef. This is such a fulfilling process, enabled by the location of our beautiful farm here in the Scenic Rim. Being able to share our farm with like-minded folk, city or country, is our absolute pleasure.”
Running Creek Beef, named because of the influence of Running Creek and The MacPherson Ranges on the delicious beef, raises premium, free-to-roam, naturally tick-resistant, grass-fed beef cattle featuring the Australian Sahiwal. The Sahiwal was first imported into Australia by CSIRO in the 1950s due to its naturally occurring tick resistance and ability to produce both beef and milk under hot tropical conditions.
Due to the Sahiwal breed content, the Running Creek Beef cattle are not only grass-fed but also do not undergo regular and invasive chemical tick treatments, receiving only general health treatments to ensure quality herd-health.
Fresh from the farm via a local fully-accredited butcher, all orders are cut to Running Creek Beef’s customers’ requirements and individually packed.
Rod & Deb do the home deliveries themselves, creating a direct link for their customers to the producers and farm. Delivering their beef in a Food Safe accredited refrigerated van, customers have complete traceability and minimal food miles with delivery throughout Brisbane, Ipswich, Scenic Rim, Logan, Wynnum, Victoria Point and Gold Coast.
With the impact of COVID-19 causing businesses to adapt and re-think, Running Creek Beef moved forward on a heart’s-desire and connected with other local Scenic Rim farmers and producers to offer their products to Running Creek Beef customers to a raving success. From Towri Sheep Cheeses , Scenic Rim fresh produce, Bunjurgen Estate Winery grape and verjuice plus Kooroomba Gully sauces and chutneys. Customers are thoroughly enjoying their paddock to pantry shopping.
Along with Running Creek Beef, which is firmly cemented in the community and lifestyle of the Scenic Rim, the Richardsons now also own and operate Running Creek Cottage.
The quaint two-bedroom cottage, originally known as McNabs Cottage, is surrounded by the majestic McPherson ranges and extensive Running Creek Beef cattle paddocks.
Refurbished in a modern country style, the self-contained home can sleep up to seven people.
“Seeing the blissfully happy faces of our guests when they arrive at Running Creek Cottage is always a highlight,” said Debbie.
“It’s a true farm experience for anyone who stays, from couples looking for a little getaway, to families looking to make memories. There are running creeks, farm animals and nature right at your doorstep. It’s a beautiful place to come and stay and enjoy the landscape of the country.”
Rod and Debbie welcome you to fill your days roaming the surrounding countryside, sampling local produce and immersing yourself in the way of life at Running Creek.
The fresh running water of the creek provides swimming, fishing, platypus and turtle spotting, as well as the opportunity to meet and feed the farms horses and cattle.
Ever the local supporters, Rod and Debbie encourage their guests to sample the Scenic Rim’s local wine, cheese and olive producers, and as paddock to plate beef producers, can organise Running Creek Beef and local products on request ahead of your stay.
