“You can’t take the bush out of the girl! I am so pleased I live in this area. I feel like I can really breathe and feel relaxed, but have so much to do and see at my fingertips. I know our visitors will feel the same way about the Scenic Rim.” – Sandy Pegler
Keira Farm is an authentic 525 acre working cattle and sheep farm tucked in Mutdapilly, just 45 minutes from Brisbane. Keira Farm offers a unique farm stay retreat and camping experience, where you will find a picturesque but functional set of cattle yards, hay sheds, the Ten Mile Swamp with black swans and their babies in season and Warrill Creek on one boundary.
Maybe you can catch a fish, go for a bush walk or sit by a fire pit having a quiet sip in the evening. Bring the kids, their push bikes and maybe the local wildlife expert will visit with a baby ‘Skippy’ or koala and a yarn to tell.
The owner/operator of Keira Farm is Sandy Pegler, who grew up on a sheep and cattle property in Central Western QLD, then spent 40 years running chicken farms and a cattle stud for her family. As they say ‘you can’t take the bush out of the girl’.
After more than 40 years running around the clock agricultural businesses, Sandy is back in the bush with her beloved cattle and sheep, cracking on at a reduced pace.
“I love it here and get a kick out of seeing others enjoy it,” Sandy said.
Sandy is a self confessed semi-greenie, with firm views about preserving the land, water and its creatures and as a result, a kangaroo family averaging about 18 are in residence & although not pets, they do enjoy a bit of time at close quarters.
Keira Farm is run by Sandy and her son Brendan, and they’ll soon be joined by Sandy’s daughter Emma to continue welcoming visitors to Keira and expand activities on the farm. Sandy said she couldn’t do it all without her trusty canine, Seymore, either – so Keira Farm is pet friendly as long as your four legged friends stay on their leash!
Keira Billy Cottage was established with a romantic ‘time out’ stay in mind. Reverse cycle air con for year-round comfort, a full kitchen including a dishwasher, comfy beds with lots of pillows and a large veranda provide all you need for your country escape. Add to this a large fire pit area and a picturesque outdoor spa-bath pavilion in the grounds, it’s the ultimate escape. Sandy recommends booking a couple’s massage for maximum relaxation and time to unwind together.
Stockyard Camp has a modern amenities block with hot showers and flushing toilets. There is a large communal, floodlit fire pit area to accommodate groups or you can pick up a small fire pit and wood then stake your claim anywhere you like in the fenced camping area, under a gum tree.
Groups of all sizes and ages are welcome – maybe it’s a primary school camp with parents or 40th birthday celebration. Be sure to contact Sandy about your requirements as she is flexible and enjoys working with groups.
Sandy not only loves to share Keira Farm with visitors, but her favourite Scenic Rim spots in the surrounding areas. Her top picks include the quaint Peak Crossing Pub for a real bush pub experience and the Summer Land Camel Farm where kids and adults alike will enjoy feeding and riding the camels, as well as great coffee and feta to die for! If you’re looking for a winery to grab a bottle or two to enjoy at Keira Farm, don’t miss The Overflow Estate or the Kooroomba Lavender Farm.
It’s no wonder her guests leave reviews saying Keira Farm is “So beautiful & so close to Brisbane too! We loved that we felt like the only ones on your property.”
