“The Scenic Rim has been my home for over 40 years. I love the beautiful scenery, serenity, fresh air and the friendly village living” – Gail Steindl
When Gail and Mike Steindl purchased 50 acres of land in Rathdowney with a ‘less than desirable’ weatherboard home in 1998, the property was vastly different from what you’ll find at Tuckeroo Cottages today. They have transformed the property into a secluded couple’s retreat in the heart of the Scenic Rim.
“Beaudesert was my family home from an early school age, so I wanted to set up home with my husband, Mike, and our sons in the area. In 1976 we returned to Beaudesert and bought a small business. We transformed it into a sub-news and travel agency before embarking on our next project,” Gail said.
With 25 years of experience in the travel industry, the couple had a clear understanding of what guests expected of a getaway destination.
Turning their piece of land in Rathdowney into a secluded couple’s haven was the next step.
Late in 2004 two cottages were constructed in Boonah by Abbottsfield Country Cottages and transported by truck to the Rathdowney property.
“We spent the following year decorating the cottages and establishing the gardens and surrounding areas. It took a lot of imagination to picture Tuckeroo Cottages now from when we first bought the land!” Gail said.
Tucked in next to Mt Barney and Mt Maroon, the two self-contained cottages are surrounded by majestic mountain views by day and starry skies at night. Guests can explore the tranquil region and take a forest walk down to the Logan River or adventure in the neighbouring National Parks, spotting local wildlife along the way.
Designed with couples in mind, Tuckeroo Cottages is adult’s only and is the perfect spot to celebrate an anniversary, honeymoon or a ‘just because’ holiday for couples of all ages.
With gorgeous scenery, cosy cottages, log fires and breakfast hampers, it’s no surprise Tuckeroo Cottages is a must-visit when in the Scenic Rim.
“We have had a very high level of ratings from our guests, including recommendations and repeat visits,” Gail said.
Aside from Tuckeroo, Gail’s favourite Scenic Rim spot to visit is Boonah and its surrounds.
“I love the small, friendly township of Boonah. One of my favourite things about the Scenic Rim as a whole is the community involvement and being so close to my friends and colleagues.”
